Major Donations

The largest donations ever given by the Ronald and Mary Ann Lachman Foundation are $100,000 over ten year periods. Current Major Grantees are

Beth Emet Synogogue for their Capital Campaign

Olin Sang Ruby Union Institute Camp for their Dining Hall to allow the camp to serve a larger population in a quality matter

The Grantee which receives the largest ongoing support from the Ronald and Mary Ann Lachman Foundation is READ Educational Center (previously AEHI, Alternatives in Education for the Hearing Impaired). The Foundation has donated $25,000 to $50,000 to this organization on a yearly basis. The Lachman Foundation made two continuing grants of $50,000 each payable over 10 years to The United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. and to The Holocaust Memorial Foundation of Illinois, funding the Lachman Documentation Library.  The Ronald and Mary Ann Lachman Foundation donated a multi-year grant totalling $100,000 to Solomon Schechter Day School in Northbrook, Illinois.

In 2001, the Ronald and Mary Ann Lachman Foundation made a special grant of $50,000 to The Abraham Fund for The Sir Charles Clore Jewish Arab Community Center in Acre. This grant was for Professional Training and Supplemental Education for High School Dropouts. There is a very high dropout rate among both Arab and Jewish teenagers in Acre. Among the Jews the rate is especially high among new immigrants and Kafkazim. There is some programs among the Jewish population for confronting this problem, but there is nothing among Arabs. This grant is for a program that addresses the comprehensive approach needed to attack this problem for all the youth in Acre. There are many talented young people who drop out of high school after age 16 and are in danger of falling into the world of drugs and crime. This program hopes to offer these young people an alternative which they will find exciting and interesting. The funding provided by the Ronald and Mary Ann Lachman Foundation provides approximately 1/3 of the funding needed for this program for the year, enough to provide a partial program if other funds are not forthcoming.

In 2002, the Ronald and Mary Ann Lachman Foundation made a special grant of $50,000 to help the fledgling Chicago Jewish High School get started.

The Foundation is seeking to give a major grant for research which will help those without functioning cochlea to hear.

As of 2002, in the area of deafness, the foundation is focusing its efforts on programs to train teachers of the deaf and interpreters to add Cued Speech (cued spoken language) to their skills.

During 2002 the foundation and it's individual trustees, gave higher than normal grants to organizations which help those effected by terrorists, particularly in Israel.  A grant was also given to MEMRI to help their efforts to translate Arab press into English and therefore to help Americans become informed of true attitudes existing in an important part of the world.
